The special effects in Transformers are some of the best special effects you have seen in years. Nothing's looked this slick before. That scene in which one of the evil robots attacks a US military base in Qatar is truly spectacular because nobody can understand what's going on...The CGI is the best... MORE

When closing his eyes after another exhausting day of filming computerized explosions and female hard bodies, does Michael Bay dream of electric sheep...While the director of "Armageddon" can be a visually arresting filmmaker, it's clear he sees people mainly as shiny, carbon-based machines motoring... Let's start with a biased statement. I hate Michael Bay. He makes loud, vacant movies with little regard for the script or characters....Most of the time he can't let go of his hyperactive desire to give me a headache...That being said, Bay's style perfectly suits the world of "Transformers," a movi... Now I have fans who say, "We are so sorry, Michael Bay, you still suck but we love you." That's what the director of "Transformers" told Simon Ang during an interview in Seoul. He could have been speaking for me. I think Michael Bay sometimes sucks ("Pearl Harbor," "Armageddon," "Bad Boys II") but I... MORE

You can see the fingerprints of both director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg all over "Transformers," an often-mesmerizing family film inspired by the Hasbro line of changeable toys and a 1980s animated TV series...Bay's previous, ambitious spectacles ("Armageddon," "The Island"... “The Transformers,” one of the best special effects movies since “Star Wars,” stands as both classic and cutting-edge. Like that trailblazing series that introduced us to The Force, a battle between good and evil spawns an unlikely hero. It's not as slick as our introduction to the Jedi Warriors, bu... MORE

"Transformers" and Michael Bay make a near-perfect pairings of material and filmmaker. After all, who better to make a movie about shape-changing, battling robots than a director whose works have frequently resembled video games and music videos?...Surprisingly, Bay actually subdues his usual, atten... There was never any hope that "Transformers," a film based on a cartoon based on a line of action figures, could be anything more than an empty-headed spectacle. But what a spectacle it is! Ideally designed for a young man whose favorite magazines are Popular Mechanics and Maxim, the new film channe... MORE

What keeps the movie from being just another special-effects extravaganza is Bay’s sense of humor — and Shia LaBeouf’s smart, live-wire performance as Sam Witwicky, an awkward teenager who buys his first car...As with most Bay movies, too much is never enough. The explosions are spectacular, the ali... MORE

Transformers will appeal to the kid in all of us...Yes, it's loud, explosive and silly, but it also perfectly embodies the concept of a summer blockbuster with its simple good-guys-vs.-bad-guys plot, cheeky humor and flawless special effects. Transformers...is easily the best movie based on an adapt... MORE

"Transformers" uncovers man's greatest love -- for machines that whir, click, rev or destroy...But before you dismiss this movie as toy porn for overgrown boys (not that there's anything wrong with that), consider this: Never was this goofy rapture explored with more fun. For the non-Transformer hea... MORE

By re-energizing the '80s series of the same name, writers John Rogers, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, along with director Michael Bay, have created the blockbuster hit of the summer with "Transformers"...Fighting, screaming and explosions rock the opening and set the tone for the rest of the film.... For those who came of age crashing their Autobots and Decepticons together while watching Saturday-morning cartoons and slurping down sugar-coated cereal, seeing an impressively rendered Optimus Prime throw down against Megatron at the end of Michael Bay's tedious toy commercial, "Transformers," wil... I’d say “Transformers” just might be the ultimate summer movie of all time. Make that: ultimate summer boy movie of all time...It’s big, it’s loud, it’s colorful and it’s fast-moving. (It runs two hours, 20 minutes but seems like half that length.) It’s got lots and lots of cool boy stuff. Cool cars... MORE

Bay has gone back to doing what he does best -- blowing stuff up. Teaming up with Executive Producer Steven Spielberg (now there's a collaboration I never thought I'd see), Bay brings his slick, hyper-kinetic, testosterone-fueled filmmaking style to bear with “Transformers,” an action-packed visual ... "Transformers," the new movie about sentient alien robot vehicles that fight each other on Earth, is even more ridiculous than it sounds. In this film's reality, the nation's top scientist looks like a stripper and our defense secretary is Jon Voight...But it's definitely ridiculous in that good 198... MORE

A movie about giant toy robots shouldn't be anywhere near this much fun, really. I mean, c'mon. When I heard there was going to be a live-action Transformers movie, I pictured a debacle. Was Hollywood officially out of ideas? What's next, "My Little Pony: The Motion Picture"?...I take it all back. T... MORE

"Transformers" is a dream for fanboys, with vehicles that whiz and whir into alien robots, spectacular sci-fi stunt chases, glistening military hardware, overheated computer software and brainy, hot girls who love Popular Mechanics...It's a Michael Bay movie based on a Hasbro line of toys that perfe... With "Transformers," Michael Bay has either made a big, dumb summer adventure for the little boy in all of us or the world's most-expensive General Motors commercial...Actually, it's a great deal of both, but as good as director Bay is at blowing things up and crafting wild visuals of those shape-sh... If it's true that there's an 8-year-old boy inside every man, "Transformers" is just the ticket to bring the kid out. Big, loud and full of testosterone-fueled car fantasies, Michael Bay's actioner hits a new peak for CGI work, showcasing spectacular chases and animated transformation sequences seam... MORE
