Michael Bay to Tackle ‘Bad Boys 3′?
Tue, Sep 1, 2009
Remember that embarrassing bit of narcissism from Revenge of the Fallen when you see the Bad Boys poster in Sam’s dorm room? Apparently Michael Bay is more attached to the franchise than we realized, because suddenly they’re talking about a Bad Boys 3.
Before you get too excited — although if you actually love the first two Bad Boys movies enough to get really excited about this, I’d be mildly concerned — nothing’s for certain yet. Between Bay, Jerry Bruckheimer, Will Smith, and Martin Lawrence, none of them have actual deals to return.
However, they’ve all said at one point or another they’d be open to the idea if the script was good, so Columbia Pictures has hired screenwriter Peter Craig (of the upcoming gangster movie The Town) to come up with something.
The original Bad Boys opened in 1995 and made a decent but not noteworthy $65.6 million. It was Bay’s first movie and Will Smith’s third movie (and first action movie). After they both became superstars in their respective careers, Bad Boys II came out in 2003 and made $138.4 million. Martin Lawrence hasn’t done much since then (oh wait, how could I forget Big Momma’s House 2, Wild Hogs, and College Road Trip?) but Smith and Bay are still two of the top moneymakers in Hollywood.
