Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen screenwriter Roberto Orci, who also wrote Star Trek and is writing its sequel, told io9 that Star Trek 2 won’t be anything like Revenge of the Fallen.

He was mostly referring to the idea that the sequel won’t feature the Enterprise crew “refusing the call to adventure”, a traditional adventure movie plot point that’s been used not just in Transformers 2 but also Spider-Man 2, Superman 2, and The Dark Knight (they all wanted to quit, remember?).  But maybe if you want to read between the lines, he’s also saying that Star Trek 2 will be a little bit more thought-out than Revenge of the Fallen’s “make up a story to go along with action set pieces that are already being built and don’t bother with second drafts because we don’t have time” style of writing.
